Morgan Van Wie has made one appearance in a match for Wisconsin’s volleyball team this season. But it doesn’t take long to understand why her statistics aren’t reflective of the value she brings to the program.
“I’ve learned the value of just being on a team and being able to give to my team is more important for me than anything that I could ever accomplish on my own,” Van Wie said. “I think that just seeing other people succeed makes me happier than seeing myself succeed, and I think for a lot of people that’s not very natural. I think for me, that is kind of natural.
“I was the oldest sibling. Something about the way that I am made me like that, and I’m really thankful for that because I can really see outside myself and what I’m giving to the team.”
Van Wie’s team-first attitude was a big reason why she was named one of three Wisconsin captains entering this season, along with Charlie Fuerbringer and Grace Egan. In the latest Badger Connect Podcast with Mike Heller, Van Wie discusses why she chose Wisconsin, what being named a team captains means, playing for coach Kelly Sheffield and more.
